Walls

I put up walls.
I avoid letting anyone near me
or see my emotions.
Because of situations growing up,
I've found it best to keep to myself.
I remain detached from any emotion.
That has been the best way to avoid disappointment;
to avoid hurt.

There has been one flaw in this plan.
If I allow one crack,
the entire wall comes crumbling down
and my emotions take over.
I never know the cause.

It hurts terribly.
And I don't like it.
