The DaVinci Code

I realized I have neglected my summer reading list for the majority of the summer.  Now that work is beginning to die down, I have time once again to read some books off my list.

The DaVinci Code was yet another great novel by Dan Brown.  Considering my religious views, parts of this novel were a bit difficult to read and I understand many of its negative reviews. Going into reading The DaVinci Code, I knew that it was a questionable novel with some very sacrilegious views and opinions. So, I made it a point to keep my mind open and to take this novel as fiction not fact, as some readers may do.

All details about the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei are correct and factual. All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in the novel are accurate.  However, the religious views and ties to the overall plot of the novel are merely opinions.  They are not factual, they are fiction.

Keeping this in mind as I read, I really enjoyed the novel. As with all Dan Brown books, The DaVinci Code is fast paced and very intellectual. Reading this book is like taking a dive into an ocean full of art and religious history.
"Read this book and be enlightened" -The Washington Post Book World
"Far more than the average thriller. Intellectually satisfying.... page-turning suspense." -Houston Chronicle
"A thundering, tantalizing, extremely smart fun ride. Brown doesn't slow down his tremedously porwerful narrative engine despite transmitting several doctorates' worth of fascinating history...The DaVinci Code is brain candy of the highest quality" -Chicago Tribune
Definitely a book to read, just be sure to keep in mind what  is fact and what is fiction.

it is time

time to move out
time to start back to school
time to live on my own again
time to meet new friends
time to reunite with old ones
time for football games
time for a social life
time for some butt-kicking classes
time for some growing
time to start the next chapter of my life.

Saturday, July 31

did I mention

I went to a John Mayer/Train concert a couple weeks ago?
I realized that I blogged my Six Flags adventure that Saturday, but not the most important part of the weekend;  the reason for the adventure...

Well, my appologies.... I left out a huge exciting adventure.
But here it is!
My first concert (aside from Crawfish Boil)
before :)
Rachel, Meredith, Hannah, Rachel and me
Train came out with a long train whistle that scared Meredith and Rachel to death
it was hilarious
John Mayer!
meredith! she touched JM :)

Rachel :)
Rachel and Hannah's seats were a little ways over so I didn't get many pictures with them during the concert
The next day we went to Six Flags and it was fantastic. The rest of the gang were sleep deprived and exhausted after 2 rides so they headed home. I, being the crazy fool I am, stayed with our other friends that had joined us at the park for a very full day of excitement.

A long weekend with little sleep.  I was able to control my screaming through a fabulous concert AND some of the best rollercoasters in the US - unheard of, I know - so that I could sing in sacrament the next morning. The sharing of my *unpracticed* song in sacrament sealed the weekend as one of the best of the summer :)
